To the Woman Who May Hold His Heart
I don’t know who you are. Maybe I never will.
But sometimes I think about the woman who gets to know the Yoongi that we never will. The one who gets to hear the things he doesn’t say in interviews, who gets to see him when he’s tired, quiet, annoyed, happy, or just being himself.
And I’ll be honest, that thought makes my heart a little sad. Not because I think he belongs to us. He doesn’t. I know that. We’ve loved him from a distance for years, through his music, his words, his little moments, and everything he has chosen to share with us. Somewhere along the way, he became part of our lives without ever knowing it. For me, especially, he became part of mine.
There were moments when his music found me when I needed it most. Moments when I felt less alone because somewhere in the world, there was a voice that understood something I couldn’t quite put into words.
So yes, maybe there is a tiny selfish part of me that wishes I didn’t have to remember that someone else may get to be the person beside him. I may even have one of those ridiculous moments where I think, maybe I should just forget BTS and move on. But I know I won’t. Because you can’t simply forget the things that helped you through parts of your life.
So if you are the person who gets to know him in that way, I hope you understand how lucky you are. Please be gentle with him. Make him laugh. Give him space when he needs it. Listen when he doesn’t have much to say. Let him be quiet without always needing to fill the silence. And love the man behind the Yoongi we know.
There are millions of us who have loved him from afar, each in our own way. We never expected to be part of his life. We just happened to find pieces of our own lives in his. Maybe that’s why my heart feels a little strange today. Not because I think I lost something that was mine. Just because sometimes you realize that someone who has meant so much to you means something completely different to someone else.
And I suppose that’s okay. I’ll still be here, somewhere in the crowd, cheering for him. A little quietly today. But still here.
