Tracing Yoongi’s School Days in Daegu
Riding a bus in Daegu was a first for me in a long time. I’m from Los Angeles, where everything is always about driving, so I haven’t taken a bus in years. But this wasn’t just any bus: it was Bus #724, the one Yoongi (SUGA) used to take to school. Bus numbers 724 and 418 are even referenced in his song “724148”, a subtle nod to his daily life in Daegu.
I boarded the bus with a little thrill, using a Korea Bus Card with Yoongi’s photo, though, of course, I lost it the same day. Still, for a few minutes, I could almost imagine myself as Yoongi, riding this route to school, passing the same streets and buildings he must have seen every morning.
I read somewhere that there was even a time when Yoongi had to choose between taking the bus or buy food. That tiny, human detail made the ride feel even more real, this was more than a commute; it was part of his story, part of the journey that shaped him.
Even if I don’t normally ride buses, this one felt special. The hum of the engine, the movement of the city outside the windows, and the thought that Yoongi once did this every day it all added up to a small, memorable connection to his past.
